African American History Month: 2022 Theme - Black Health and Wellness

Library Resources for the Celebration of National African American History Month

In 1926, African American History month began as Negro History Week, founded by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History.  Each year the ASALH chooses a theme to highlight. The theme for the 2022 celebration is Black Health and Wellness.

This theme acknowledges the legacy of not only Black scholars and medical practitioners in Western medicine, but also other ways of knowing throughout the African Diaspora. The 2022 theme considers activities, rituals and initiatives that Black communities have done to be well. -ASALH Program Planning Committee
